Modular homes are built in a controlled environment.  The process starts with lumber that has been checked numerous times for a specific moisture level before building.  This process ensures a house that will be produced with less future stress cracks and settling due to shrinkage of the lumber.  Modular homes are built with shipping in mind using 2x6 exterior wall construction and a "glued and screwed" construction process to produce a more stable structure during the movement and installation of each module onto a completed foundation.  Modular homes are typically built with 20-30% more lumber than a traditional stick-built home; therefore the construction is more solid, which increases the strength and durability of the home.
